Saddle up and ride off: Here comes the third and last part of the DEFA Western soundtrack trilogy. Contrary to the first two parts on "Wigwam, Cowboys, Roter Kreis” you will find some compositions that might be surprising: sounds that remind you more of Isaac Hayes than of standard Western-clichés. As bonus tracks you can find 3 vocal tracks and an original comment of Dean Reed. As usual, the material has been previously unreleased!
It´s done: With this CD the project of documenting the soundtracks of the DEFA-Western movies has come to an successful end. Finally the scores of "Tecumseh”, "Apaches”, "Bloodbrother”, "Severino”, "Blauvogel” and "Atkins” were dug out of the Babelsberg movie archives and carefully remastered. It´s not by accident that these scores were put together on the last CD of the trilogy, since these compositions -more or less- don´t really fit into the frame of the ususal Western score–clichés. Thus, the second title from Guenther Fischer´s rarely instrumentalised score of "Tecumseh” (1972) utterly reminds of Isaac Haye´s "Shaft” (CD title No 2).Title No 12 of the CD out of Dieter Hosalla’s score from "Apaches” is pretty strange, too: it sounds like a duel between "wahwah- guitars” and Western- trumpets. Juergen Kehrt on the other hand shows with "Atkins” how the "Friends of Dean Martinez” would have sounded fifteen years ago (CD titles No 22 and 23).
The result is the ultimate Western-Lounge–CD. Here, the cowboys
rather chill at the bar than gallop through the prairie. Three song-titles
and an original comment from the "American rebel” of the
GDR, Dean Reed form the conclusion of "Wigwam, Cowboys, Roter
Kreis”. This American "in the service of Socialism”,
together with the omnipresent DEFA-Chief-Indian Gojko Mitic, makes
up for the biggest part of the myth of the DEFA- Westerns. Hence
the two ("blood-brothers”) cover the booklet of this CD.
By the way, the "Roter Kreis” ("Red Circle”) which is mentioned in the title is a team project of directors, cameramen and authors etc. that are responsible for most of the DEFA- Westerns which are musically documented here.
